A British heritage brand with over five decades of craft behind it, finally with an identity to match.
John Lewis of Hungerford have been designing, making and installing bespoke kitchens and cabinetry by hand in England since 1972. With 12 showrooms nationwide and kitchens that regularly reach six figures, they sit alongside the likes of Neptune, DeVol and Lanserring at the very top of the market. Yet their brand didn't reflect that. Corporate, dated and visually disconnected from the craft world they inhabit, the identity hadn't kept pace with the business. There was also an elephant in the room: sharing a name with one of Britain's most recognisable department stores meant the rebrand needed to establish an identity so distinctive in its own right that the comparison simply wouldn't arise.
What makes John Lewis of Hungerford genuinely special isn't just the quality of what they make, it's how they work. A single point of contact from first conversation to final installation. A family ethos embedded into every project, fifty years on. The brand needed to carry that warmth alongside the craft, and that informed every decision.
The solution was rooted in detail. A custom logotype paired with a bespoke JLH monogram, set within an oval cartouche: heritage in its references, precise in its execution. The italic treatment of "of" does quiet but important work, giving the name its own distinct rhythm and personality. Macro photography of materials, joinery and hardware sits alongside room photography, celebrating the finer details as much as the wider picture, with cabinetry and furniture woven in naturally to reflect the full breadth of what the studio offers.
As Senior Brand and UI Designer, I led the creative across both the brand identity and a full digital platform built around discovery, with filtering by style, material, colour and location. The project encompassed a custom logotype, monogram, style guide, brochure, social media presence and website design.
